Approximately 5,000 gorgeous hina dolls are displayed at around 20 locations, including historic homes and museums, attracting numerous visitors.The hina matsuri (Doll Festival) is a traditional Japanese event held on March 3 each year to wish for the healthy growth and happiness of young girls. Hina doll displays are modeled after the weddings of imperial court couples from the 8th to 12th centuries, with dolls of the Emperor and Empress being placed on the top tier, followed by court officials and musicians arranged on a tiered stand below.Visitors can admire an impressive variety of dolls, ranging from rare and exquisite ones to more humble creations made from paper and fabric that were cherished among commoners. Unique events, such as the Mameda Nagashibina, where people write wishes on paper hina dolls and float them down the river, add to the festival’s charm.
